Cleaning Schedule

The cleaning supplies are in the locked staff bathroom, in the kitchen or in the locked cabinets in the bathrooms. Sanitising Solutions are in plastic spray bottles and labelled.

Gloves must be worn when cleaners are in use. Gloves are in the locked cabinets in the bathroom.

Please, refer to Cleaning Schedule posted above the sink of the room you are working in.

If using bleach, re-mix solution every day as diluted bleach loses its strength over the time.

Diapering & Toileting Policy

To ensure a high standard of hygiene, safety, and dignity for all children, the following procedures are in place for diapering and toileting at our center.

All staff must review and follow these procedures as part of their onboarding and daily responsibilities.

Diapering Procedure

Staff are required to review the official diapering procedure on their first day of work at the center. This procedure is in the Staff Binder and must be always followed to maintain health and safety standards.

Diapering must always be conducted in the designated diapering area, using gloves, proper hand hygiene, and sanitization of surfaces after each change. Staff must never leave a child unattended on the diapering surface at any time.

Toileting Procedure

Children who are toilet-trained or in the process of toilet learning will be sent to the bathroom one at a time to maintain privacy and supervision. A staff member will stand at the bathroom door to supervise and assist as necessary.

If a child requires help with toileting (e.g., wiping), the staff member will assist the child while wearing gloves. Staff must ensure the child is comfortable and treated with respect during this process.

Toileting Accidents

In the event of a toileting accident involving feces:

  • Staff will clean the child using gloves and disinfectants.
  • Children are not permitted to clean up fecal accidents due to health risks.
  • Soiled clothing will be bagged securely and sent home with the child for laundering.
  • The incident will be documented in the center’s logbook so that other staff and the manager are informed, and follow-up can occur if needed.

All staff are expected to uphold this policy to ensure a clean, respectful, and safe environment for all children.

Toilet Paper

Toilet paper must always be readily accessible to all children to promote proper hygiene and independence. Rooms are expected to share supplies as needed to ensure consistent availability without interruption.

If, due to a child’s specific behavioral needs, access to toilet paper must be restricted for safety reasons, a care plan must be developed. This care plan must include:

  • A description of the challenging behavior,
  • Specific strategies to support the child,
  • How staff will maintain the child’s dignity and hygiene,
  • A plan for ensuring that other children continue to have free and independent access to toilet paper, along with guidance on proper hygiene practices.

Paper Towels

Paper towel dispensers must be monitored and refilled regularly. Staff are expected to refill dispensers as soon as time allows, ensuring children always have access to appropriate materials for hand drying and hygiene.

Children’s Bedding

To ensure proper hygiene and prevent cross-contamination, children’s bedding must be stored and handled in a clean and always organized manner.

Storage Guidelines:

  1. Bedding must not be stored together or touch each other at any time.
  2. Each child's bedding must be stored in its own clearly labeled bag.
  3. Bedding without a proper storage bag must not be placed on top of or in contact with other children's bedding or bags.
  4. If a child does not have a bedding bag, the bedding must be stored in the child’s individual cubby until a suitable bag is provided.

Daily Nap Procedures:

  1. Mats, cots, or playpens must be set up just prior to nap time.
  2. After nap time, all bedding must be promptly placed back into the individual bags.
  3. Mats, cots, and playpens must be sprayed with disinfectants and wiped down thoroughly after each use.

Following these procedures ensures a clean, safe, and organized environment for all children and helps maintain compliance with health and licensing regulations.
