Staff/substitute should not come to the centre until all symptoms of sickness have passed, without symptoms being masked by pain relieving or fever reducers (i.e. Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, etc).

If staff/substitute cannot come to the centre due to sickness or any other reason, the manager must be informed not less than 12 hours before beginning of the next working day.

Communicable Diseases

Staff must inform the centre of any serious illnesses or contagious diseases within 24 hours of diagnosis. The centre should be informed of the cause of infection (if known) so the other teacher, families and the health board can be notified if needed. The contagious staff cannot return to the centre until all the symptoms are gone, they are examined by the doctor, a doctor`s note is written and given permission to return to working with children.

The centre will review the immunization records to identify children and teachers who are not immunized to notify parents and staff of the risk and separate them from the group if needed.

Immunization Guidelines

Licensees must keep immunization records for each child, employee, and volunteer, even if the immunizations are incomplete. This information is required, as it will allow public health and medical staff to quickly identify each person`s immunization status in the event of an outbreak.

Storage of Personal Medication

All teacher`s medications need to be stored and labelled in the kitchen cupboard together with others. Do not keep medications with the personal belongings or in the lunch bag.
